It’s been some time here right, I know and I want to talk about it with you my dear reader. I promise, it’s going to be a short read.
So for days I have been feeling odd and out of sorts with myself, at the end of the day I seem not to be satisfied as I fell I have not really achieved much during the day.
As a newly married lady, having resigned from my previous job to join my husband in another state, I just stay home because is a new environment and all. I am used to a very busy life and here I am married, in another location and plenty of time to myself.
Yeah you would easily say “wow, you’ve got a lot of time to develop yourself and do many things for yourself”, but is it really that easy? It wasn’t for me, sincerely. I have tried a lot of things, time table for myself, motivate myself, etc, but it didn’t work.
I got really fed up when yesterday I was on my phone till about 12 noon, left to do some laundry and came by 2pm and was on my phone till 4pm! I wasn’t wasting my time on social media o, the only thing I did on social media was to update my Linkedin profile and the rest were on research on many other things I would like to go into in the nearest future. The thing is, I had just created another timetable for myself just that morning and I blew it, I didn’t follow it!! I did other stuff. And at the end of the day, I knew something was wrong with me!
It doesn’t sound serious right? The thing is I know in my spirit that something isn’t right. So I prayed about it this morning and it was as though the Holy Spirit was waiting for me to ask and he led me to read a scripture passage I felt I know.
Galatians 5: 16 – 25
Gal.5.16 – So I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
Gal.5.17 – The old sinful nature loves to do evil, which is just opposite from what the Holy Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are opposite from what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, and your choices are never free from this conflict.
Gal.5.18 – But when you are directed by the Holy Spirit, you are no longer subject to the law.
Gal.5.19 – When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your lives will produce these evil results: sexual immorality, impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure,
Gal.5.20 – idolatry, participation in demonic activities, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, divisions, the feeling that everyone is wrong except those in your own little group,
Gal.5.21 – envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other kinds of sin. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Gal.5.22 – But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Gal.5.23 – gentleness, and self-control. Here there is no conflict with the law.
Gal.5.24 – Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.
Gal.5.25 – If we are living now by the Holy Spirit, let us follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives
Looking at this scripture, I discovered where I had gotten it all wrong.
Verse 16 says “ So I say live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature” and verse 18a says “ But if you are led by the Spirit…“
The reason why it seems like I am confused, I don’t achieve much with my time is because I have stopped living by the Spirit. It sounds scary right or untrue but that is what it is!
Even if it is just for a day, living without consciously yielding to the Holy spirit can leave wondering if you lost a limb.
And because I have stopped living by the Spirit, I lost control of myself.
Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit.
Gal 5:22-23 says
But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Here there is no conflict with the law.
It is a function of the Spirit of God in me. I conquer the flesh by the power of the Spirit. Lack of self control is a sign of a dysfunctional relationship with the Holy Spirit. Yes I said that! 😀
2Timothy 1:7 says
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-control.
Living by the Spirit is continuous and conscious. Gal 5:25 says
If we are living now by the Holy Spirit, let us follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
I am writing this right now because I am daring to live by the Spirit. I want a fulfilled day and that’s why I am yielding to the Holy spirit. I choose to be Spirit-Led and Spirit-Controlled.
Thank you for reading, please do drop your comments, I would love to hear from you. How do you conquer yourself?
All my love…
